Wind Turbine Design Received Type Certification
The Envision-Nabrawind configuration enables large-scale turbine installation in lower wind speed environments.
Updated on Sept. 30, 2026 in Energy

UL Solutions has issued a Type Certificate for the Envision EN182-7.8 MW wind turbine, which utilizes the modular Nabralift 3.MAX tower system. The design features a 188-metre hub height and a 182-metre rotor diameter.
Why it matters
This certification validates a design configuration specifically engineered to increase energy capture in regions characterized by lower wind speeds. The modular self-erecting technology allows for the deployment of larger turbine structures without requiring traditional heavy-lift cranes.
The turbine produces 7.8 MW of power using a 182-metre rotor diameter, significantly larger than smaller-scale land turbines. The system is certified to reach a 188-metre hub height, utilizing the Nabralift modular system designed to support up to 200 metres and 8 MW units.
The players
UL Solutions
A global safety science company that provides testing, inspection, and certification services for renewable energy infrastructure.
Envision
A wind turbine manufacturer that develops advanced power generation hardware and energy management software.
Nabrawind
An engineering firm focused on developing modular and self-erecting wind tower technologies to reduce installation costs.
The details
The configuration combines Envision's turbine technology with the Nabralift system, a modular, self-erecting tower designed to eliminate the need for heavy-duty assembly cranes. By utilizing a lattice-based structure for the lower tower sections, the design allows for greater heights than conventional tubular towers which are restricted by road transport widths. This increases the swept area—the total circular surface area covered by the turbine blades—to improve power generation at higher altitudes where wind resources are steadier.

The Tech Race
The certification marks a significant step for the Nabralift tower system in competing against conventional tubular tower designs for large-scale energy projects. It places Envision's hardware in a strong position for global markets, particularly where heavy-crane logistics currently limit the installation of taller, high-capacity wind turbines.
The deployment of this configuration is already underway, with 17 units supplied for the 133 MW Nullagine Wind Project in Australia. This indicates the technology is currently moving from certification to active utility-scale integration for grid-level power supply.
The takeaway
This certification enables the wider deployment of taller wind turbines by bypassing logistical limitations associated with traditional tower assembly. Industry observers should watch for the performance metrics of the 17 turbines at the Nullagine Wind Project to gauge the system's long-term reliability.
