Dynatron has officially listed the SB1-4U-ACTIVE heatsink, providing the first hardware cooling specifications for the upcoming AMD EPYC Verano server platform. The new hardware is designed to support the transition to Socket SB1 architecture, which is projected to launch in 2027.
Why it matters
The introduction of the Socket SB1 architecture for the EPYC Verano platform signals a transition from the existing SP5 standard for AMD server infrastructure. This update supports higher-performance Zen 6 core integration and advanced memory configurations using LPDDR5X modules.
The Dynatron SB1-4U-ACTIVE heatsink measures 128.05 x 106.6 x 130.7mm and features two fans capable of 6,000RPM. It delivers 91.7CFM of airflow with a peak electrical draw of 24W and is rated for a 50,000-hour operational life.
The players
AMD
A semiconductor company that designs high-performance server processors and the EPYC product line.
Dynatron
A manufacturer specializing in server-grade thermal management solutions and cooling components.
The details
The cooling assembly utilizes a vapor chamber—a sealed copper device filled with liquid that evaporates to absorb heat—alongside heatpipes to move thermal energy to airflow regions. The system is engineered to handle the demands of the Verano platform, which includes support for xGMI links operating at 112Gbps. This architecture represents a departure from the SP5 platform currently used for EPYC server infrastructure.

2027: Projected availability for EPYC Verano platform
The Tech Race
The transition to Socket SB1 marks an architectural evolution from the current AMD EPYC SP5 server platform. This change aligns with the industry-wide move toward supporting faster interconnect speeds and higher memory bandwidth required for upcoming Zen 6 core deployments.
Data center operators can expect the new cooling hardware to become available as part of the broader EPYC Verano server rollout scheduled for 2027. The platform will require a shift to Socket SB1 and SOCAMM2 memory modules for those upgrading to Zen 6-based infrastructures.
The takeaway
The listing of the SB1-4U-ACTIVE confirms that the next-generation server ecosystem is centering on higher thermal management requirements and faster xGMI interconnect speeds. Watch for future benchmarks regarding Zen 6 power efficiency as the 2027 launch window approaches.
