Hewlett Packard Enterprise has announced the expansion of its data center portfolio with four new ProLiant Gen13 servers. These systems incorporate 6th Generation AMD EPYC processors and are designed to support heavy workloads including agentic AI and simulation.
Why it matters
As compute-intensive tasks like agentic AI and real-time modeling proliferate, enterprise demand centers on increasing core density and memory bandwidth. These servers address that shift while providing integrated security features such as post-quantum cryptography readiness.
The ProLiant Gen13 line features the DL525, which supports up to 256 cores, and the DL585a, which accommodates eight double-wide PCIe GPUs. Reliability is verified through 10,000 hours of validation testing per generation across 1,000 unique tests.
The players
Hewlett Packard Enterprise
A global information technology company that provides servers, storage, and networking solutions for enterprise data centers.
AMD
A semiconductor company that designs the EPYC processor line, which powers the compute-heavy architecture of modern enterprise server systems.
The details
The new servers integrate 6th Gen AMD EPYC processors, which are multi-core server chips, to handle high-demand AI inference and virtualized workloads. The XD245 model utilizes a direct liquid-cooled design, where liquid coolant circulates directly over heat-generating components to dissipate thermal energy more efficiently than traditional air-cooled systems like the XD285. Security is managed via HPE iLO 8—a server management platform that handles remote administration—and features automated self-encrypting drives and multi-person authorization.
Timeline
The DL525 Gen13 server becomes available in 2026.
The DL585a Gen13 server becomes available in early 2027.
The XD245 and XD285 Gen13 servers become available in 2027.
The Tech Race
The release of the Gen13 line continues the industry trend of aligning server hardware with the specific compute demands of agentic AI and simulation modeling. By deploying the 6th Generation AMD EPYC architecture, HPE aims to maintain its competitive position in enterprise reliability and core density.
Enterprise data center operators can expect the new ProLiant models to begin rolling out in 2026, with full availability across all four models by 2027. The shift toward higher core density and liquid-cooled designs will require IT teams to evaluate existing rack power and cooling infrastructure before deployment.
The takeaway
Reliable performance remains the primary driver for enterprise server procurement, with 81 per cent of customers identifying it as a key purchase factor. Watch for upcoming benchmark releases as the hardware enters the market to confirm the performance gains in real-world AI inference workloads.
