Celestia has activated Fibre, a high-throughput data lane on its mainnet designed to support large-scale rollup data needs. This new channel allows rollups to bypass the standard Celestia L1 data path, which is currently limited to 8 MiB per blob.

Why it matters

Fibre enables significantly higher data throughput for rollups, addressing the scaling requirements of projects that need to handle massive volumes of transactional data. The activation marks a shift toward specialized data lanes within the existing validator ecosystem.

Fibre v10 supports blobs ranging from 256 KiB to 128 MiB, providing a 16-fold increase in individual blob capacity over the standard L1 limit of 8 MiB. This throughput architecture was validated in October 2026, reaching 3.07 Tb/s across 500 nodes.

The players

Celestia

A modular data availability network that uses a distributed set of validators to store and verify transaction data for rollups.

The details

Fibre functions by directing data blobs—bundles of transaction data—directly to the validator set rather than through the traditional L1 data square. Commitments and validator signatures for these submissions are recorded on-chain to maintain network security. To participate, users must lock TIA tokens for escrow deposits and pay fees based on blob size and a set base rate.

Timeline

  1. January 2026: Fibre testing reached 1 Tb/s throughput across 500 nodes.

  2. October 2026: Benchmark tests achieved 3.07 Tb/s throughput.

  3. October 20, 2026: Celestia activated Fibre on its mainnet.

The Tech Race

Fibre extends the capability of the standard Celestia L1 data squares by providing a high-throughput parallel lane for rollups with massive data requirements. This deployment represents a strategic move to optimize data throughput for modular blockchain architectures.

Rollup developers can now utilize Fibre for large data submissions by locking TIA tokens for escrow. The system supports up to 200 Fibre submissions per block, providing a dedicated path for high-demand applications.

The takeaway

The successful 3.07 Tb/s benchmark signals a substantial increase in potential rollup throughput for modular networks. Watch for future updates to block cadence and upload limits as the network matures beyond the initial v10 launch.
