AI Juries to Settle Blockchain Disputes

GenLayer's Internet Court, a dispute-resolution system built on AI validators, is in beta on its Bradbury testnet and is set to launch on mainnet in Q4 2026. Mainnet was originally targeted for October 2026 and had not launched as of November 2, 2026, so the launch is a forecast, not a shipped product.

Why it matters

The project proposes using AI models as judges for subjective, natural-language disputes, a different approach from conventional smart contracts that only execute deterministic logic. Its timing reflects a broader push to let blockchain-based systems handle cases that require interpretation rather than code alone.

The figures come from GenLayer's own testnet and design specifications rather than independent audits: roughly 300,000 transactions per day, about 70 professional validators, and 12,000 to over 25,000 adjudicated decisions per day on the Bradbury testnet. Independent verification of decision quality and the escalation path to 1,500 validators has not been reported.

The players

GenLayer

A blockchain project building AI-driven smart contracts, whose testnet and Internet Court are its main products.

The details

Disputes are routed to a randomly selected jury of five validators, each running a different AI model, so that no single model decides the outcome. If a ruling is contested, the panel grows to as many as 1,500 validators under a consensus process GenLayer calls Optimistic Democracy. Intelligent Contracts, the system's programs, accept natural language, pull in web data, and make subjective calls, running inside a custom environment called GenVM.

Timeline

  1. 2024: GenLayer began as YeagerAI.

  2. October 2026: Mainnet was originally targeted for launch.

  3. November 2, 2026: Mainnet had not launched as of this date.

  4. Q4 2026: Mainnet launch is now expected.

The Tech Race

Conventional smart contracts on platforms such as Ethereum can only execute logic that is fully specified in code, which leaves disputes requiring interpretation outside their reach. GenLayer's Internet Court is positioned as an attempt to close that gap with AI-model juries, though the approach is still in beta and has not been independently benchmarked against competing dispute-resolution designs.

The Internet Court is in beta on the Bradbury testnet, so ordinary users cannot use it for disputes today. The GEN token is planned for staking, gas fees, and governance once mainnet launches, but no pricing or access terms have been announced.

The takeaway

The central question is whether AI-model juries can produce rulings that hold up under contest, which the 1,500-validator escalation path is designed to test. Watch whether GenLayer reaches its Q4 2026 mainnet launch and publishes independent measures of contested-ruling outcomes.

What happens next

GenLayer's mainnet launch is currently expected in Q4 2026, following the October 2026 target that was not met.
