Fujitsu North America has announced a partnership to sell Vexata VX-100 storage arrays, expanding its reach into the high-performance NVMe flash market. The agreement enables resellers to offer these arrays alongside Fujitsu hardware for platforms including Oracle, SAP, and VMware.

Why it matters

By integrating high-performance flash technology, Fujitsu aims to capture share in the NVMe market while offering data center operators a dense, performance-optimized storage architecture for enterprise workloads.

The Vexata VX-100 provides 430 TB of usable storage within a 6U physical rack space. The architecture is engineered to deliver an 8-times performance increase compared to other vendors.

The players

Fujitsu North America

A regional subsidiary of the global Japanese technology firm that manufactures enterprise servers, storage, and computing infrastructure.

Vexata

A storage technology provider focused on performance-optimized NVMe flash architectures for data center environments.

Mellanox Technologies

A supplier of high-performance end-to-end interconnect solutions for data center servers and storage systems.

The details

The Vexata architecture decouples the control plane, which operates on a standard CPU, from the critical data path, which resides on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) — a specialized hardware circuit that can be reprogrammed after manufacturing. This design allows the array to function as a rack-scale system, a software-only installation, or a scale-out network-attached storage (NAS) device. Demonstration projects at the Fujitsu Solutions Lab currently utilize these stacks in combination with Fujitsu Primergy RX servers and Mellanox network switches.

Timeline

  1. Pacific Disaster Center implemented Vexata storage in 2025.

  2. Fujitsu resellers will begin selling these product SKUs in February 2027.

The Tech Race

Fujitsu's move aligns with the industry-wide shift toward NVMe flash, which was projected to reach 50% of external primary storage sales as of 2021. The firm is now positioning its reference stacks against competitors in the SAP HANA and Microsoft Azure Stack ecosystems.

Enterprise customers managing Oracle, SAP, and VMware workloads gain access to these storage bundles through Fujitsu resellers starting in February 2027. Operators looking to optimize performance for 200 TB data sets can evaluate the stacks currently on display at the Fujitsu Solutions Lab.

The takeaway

Fujitsu is betting that combining NVMe-optimized hardware with existing server lines will help enterprise clients handle massive data throughput. Watch for the February 2027 retail launch to see how these integrated stacks compete with current tier-one storage solutions.
