Novotechnik has released its new LWX Series of linear position transducers designed for operation in harsh industrial and mobile environments. The sensors provide absolute displacement measurement with an IP67 rating and are currently available as part of the company's product lineup.
Why it matters
The series allows for reliable, direct position monitoring in machinery exposed to extreme temperatures, shock, and vibration. By combining high resolution with robust physical tolerances, these sensors address the durability requirements for critical automation and mobile equipment.
The LWX Series offers a resolution of better than 0.01 mm and operates within a temperature range of -30 to +100 degrees Celsius. These transducers support vibrations up to 20 g and shock loads of 50 g for 11 ms, significantly exceeding requirements for standard office-based or light-industrial sensors.
The players
Novotechnik
An industrial technology manufacturer specializing in high-precision position and speed sensors for the automotive, medical, and mechanical engineering sectors.
The details
The LWX system utilizes a differential pressure compensation mechanism featuring a GORE membrane to equalize internal pressure against environmental fluctuations. Mechanical linkage stability is maintained by a double-bearing actuating rod and low-backlash pivot heads, which permit up to 12.5 degrees of angular movement during operation. Model 004 in the series adds a stainless-steel sleeve over the shaft to further harden the device against physical debris.
Timeline
Novotechnik released the LWX Series transducers on October 27, 2026.
The Tech Race
This release positions Novotechnik against established suppliers of ruggedized industrial sensors, focusing on long-cycle durability under high-stress conditions. By targeting a 50 million movement service life, the series aims to displace lower-rated components currently used in mobile equipment and heavy industrial automation.
Engineers and equipment manufacturers can integrate these sensors into existing mobile machinery workflows to improve positional accuracy without secondary linkage hardware. The sensors are available now, though users should confirm specific electrical range requirements, which span from 50 mm to 750 mm.
The takeaway
The LWX Series provides a durable, high-resolution solution for heavy-duty position sensing that minimizes the need for complex mechanical linkages. Engineers should track the long-term field performance of these units to see if they meet the claimed 50 million movement threshold in high-vibration applications.
