Littelfuse has released its new SDE Series of surface-mount DIP switches designed for compact industrial and IoT hardware. These components are now available in configurations of up to 12 positions.
Why it matters
As IoT and industrial devices shrink, the need for space-efficient, modular input hardware grows. This component enables tighter PCB layouts by using an end-stackable architecture.
The SDE Series switches operate at 24V DC with a 25mA switching current limit and a 0.1-inch integrated circuit pitch. Each unit is rated for 1,000 mechanical and electrical cycles.
The players
Littelfuse
A global manufacturer of circuit protection, power control, and sensing products that serves the industrial and electronics markets.
The details
The switches feature an end-stackable, modular architecture that allows engineers to configure banks for varying input requirements. They are constructed with copper alloy contacts finished in gold over nickel for oxidation resistance and housed in UL 94V-0 fire retardant plastic. The units include a top-tape-sealed design, which permits the switches to undergo automated washing processes during PCB assembly without contaminating the internal contact mechanism.
Timeline
October 27, 2026: Littelfuse officially launched the SDE Series DIP switches.
The Tech Race
These switches compete within a crowded field of standardized passive components used in industrial control systems. The development follows a broader industry trend toward hardening components for automated, high-speed board assembly lines.
These components are now shipping in tube or tape-and-reel packaging, enabling immediate use in high-volume automated electronic assembly lines. Design engineers can integrate them into upcoming IoT and industrial projects requiring configurable, washable board-level switching.
The takeaway
The SDE Series offers a modular, wash-compatible solution for designers focused on high-density PCB layouts. Watch for updated technical bulletins on specific high-volume pricing and lead times from the manufacturer.
